When we first launched a TikTok page for Celestial Cleaning Service, the goal was simple: showcase our work. We thought it would be a modern way to display before and after results and highlight services like floor waxing, scrubbing, and carpet cleaning. What we didn’t expect was how impactful and valuable the platform would become for our business, our team, and the broader janitorial community.
From Showcasing Work to Building a Following
We started by capturing our day-to-day work, especially detailed floor care projects. Using a mix of iPhone footage and Meta smart glasses for POV shots, we documented the transformation process in a way that felt real and immersive. Very quickly, we realized there’s an entire audience that finds this type of content not only satisfying, but educational.
As our videos gained traction, we began receiving comments and direct messages from other janitorial professionals across the country. Some were just starting their businesses, while others were established and looking to refine their processes. Many had specific questions about techniques, products, and workflows.
Without intending to, we had created a platform that allowed us to share knowledge and support others in the industry. We were surprised to see a lot of the younger generation interested in this line of work. TikTok was a great way to speak their language and introduce them to this industry through fun visuals and step by step processes.
Content That Creates Client Trust and Internal Pride
At the same time, TikTok introduced us to a new type of customer interaction. Potential clients who had seen our videos would mention them during walkthroughs or initial conversations. It became an instant icebreaker and, more importantly, a trust builder. Instead of explaining what we do, they had already seen our process in action. This visual transparency helped position us as professionals who take pride in quality and consistency.
Internally, the impact was just as meaningful. Our team, many of whom work behind the scenes during evening shifts, began to see themselves featured in the content. This created a sense of pride and ownership and surprisingly helped with retention! Employees became more engaged and even excited to participate in filming. TikTok became a simple but powerful way to recognize and highlight the people who are often overlooked in our industry. It brought our team together in a different and creative way.
Low Barrier, High Return
For companies looking to retain and build a culture within their company, we highly recommend jumping on the social media train, as the barrier to entry is low. You don’t need expensive production equipment or complex editing software. In our experience, consistency matters more than perfection. Tools like Meta smart glasses can help capture hands-free footage that a lot of viewers enjoy, while TikTok’s built in editor makes it easy to edit videos on the go. Over time, you naturally start to understand what resonates with viewers.
The most important lesson we’ve learned is to stay focused on the purpose behind the content. It’s easy to get caught up in views and metrics, but the real value comes from documenting your process, educating others, and showcasing your team’s work. When approached with that mindset, social media becomes more than marketing, it becomes a tool for connection, credibility, and community within the cleaning industry.
