For BSCs, the industry is constantly changing. From new technologies to evolving federal and state laws, the industry is always adapting to what's new right now. The New Year is a perfect time to think about what the future will look like and how to adjust your business practices. We asked three BSCAI Past-Presidents to give us their take on what is out on the horizon for BSCs in the next three to five years.

"I believe that the future of the BSC industry in the US will over the next 3-5 years look more like the European and Asian models. There are few 'janitorial' companies and most are using the 'Integrated Facilities Service Model,' where contract service providers will be 'single source' for janitorial, security, food, HVAC, etc. There will be much more consolidation in the BSC market as many company owners are reaching retirement age. I feel that more European companies will be looking to expand into North America, thus creating some exciting times for the Mergers and Acquisitions market."

I believe the challenge for the near term future will be recruiting and retaining a quality labor force. This will be important as labor remains in short supply but also because companies will continue be required to find ways to do more with less. A quality, tenured and trained workforce is the only way the necessary efficiencies can be achieved.
