SITUATION
Each year, billions of dollars in federal and state employment tax credits and incentives are available to qualifying employers. However, because the process to apply for and claim eligible credits and incentives is complex and time consuming, most go unclaimed.

Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) and Welfare-to-Work (W-t-W) are federal tax credit programs that benefit mployers for hiring job seekers most in need of employment. These programs entitle an employer to claim up to $2,400 (WOTC) and $8,500 (W-t-W) in tax credits for each certified employee hired. In addition to these federal programs, there are many state and local credits available
as well.

Employers may qualify for credits when they hire from a host of targeted groups including:

  • At risk/summer employed youths
  • Welfare recipients
  • Food Stamp recipients
  • Residents of Empowerment Zones, Enterprise Communities, or Renewal Communities
  • Supplemental security income recipients
  • Aid to Families with Dependent Children recipients
  • Vocational rehabilitation referrals
  • Veterans receiving Food Stamps
  • Ex-felons

The difficulty for employers is finding the internal resources to develop a prgram that monitors changes at the federal level as well as for all 50 states, interfaces with the hiring process to see if new hires are eligible, and pursues the necessary paperwork for certification within the specific time constraints. TALX has the experience and know-how to maximize the available credits/incentives for our clients.
